>> Criminal justice reform.

Now that is something that we often hear a lot
about and I think a lot of people throw it out

and really not look into what it really means.

I mean criminal justice reform.

If we go back and we look at all of the other
countries in the world, and we set our justice

or criminal justice system beside it,
and we look at the amount of people

that we have incarcerated for the amount of
time for the types of crimes that are committed.

We can start right with the drug laws.

If we look at the amount of time that people
are serving for drugs, the amount of people

that are sitting in prison for
drug charges are drug addicts.

They are people who decided and made choices
to get high for whatever apparent reason.

And they are sentenced to draconian laws
that if we would just look at the books,

look on the books, crack cocaine, LSD, all of
these cocaine laws, drug laws that are currently

on the books and have been proven
by statistics that to give--

that to set out these long sentences
does not improve or cure the criminals

from doing what it is that they do.

So, my whole thing with criminal
justice and criminal reform is

that we have to reform the whole system.

How can you sit here and think that people could
be sitting in jail serving just as much time

for drugs as someone serving for murder?

How could you sit here and say that someone just
does 20 something years for hearsay or drugs

and then come out of prison after serving
all of this time and may not feel hurt by it?

How many cases do we have in this-- in our
criminal justice system that DNA has set free

after being proven that they never
committed the crime in the first place?

So, clemency is a blessing
because it gives the president

or the governor a chance to correct a wrong.

But if we're not going to do it on a mass
level and correct all of the sentences

that have proven to be wrong,
then how fair is that?

Because even with clemency that was left by
President Obama, he couldn't correct it all.

But at the same time, why not set it up now that
if clemency is going to be used to go right back

in there and set all of the people that
have proven to be wrongly sentenced

under these draconian laws, why
not correct the sentences for that?

So if we're going to correct and reform criminal
justice, if we don't go to the root of the all

of this, we are not going to do it right.

And if you're not going to do it right,
we're going to continue to continue having

where there is no justice
there's not going to no peace.

So if we're going to set criminal justice
reform and if we're going to do it right,

we have to go to the root and correct all
of these laws that have proven without--

beyond a reasonable doubt, proven
to be wrong, we got to correct them.

And if we don't correct them, then we're going
to continue to allow the United States citizens

to rot away in prison and there's going
to continue to be uproars, cry outs,

and protesters for the rest of our life.

And that is not right and that's
not criminal justice reform.
